Virginia Tech Surplus Online Auction
Bidding opens on the 1st Thursday of Each Month and closes on the 2nd Thursday (Excluding Nov. & Jan.)
These auctions generally contain vehicles, lab equipment, shop equipment, computers, IT equipment, restaurant Equipment & anything else that is used in the university's daily operations.
1. Introduction
Welcome to Matthews Auctioneers' online bidding platform. Below are the terms and conditions that apply to all transactions for this auction. By using this site, you agree that: (1) You have read and agreed to the terms & conditions, (2) You understand these terms & conditions, and; (3) You are bound by these terms & conditions in the use of this site. Terms & conditions anywhere else on the site constitute an agreement between Matthews Auctioneers and the user. Therefore, these terms & conditions can only be changed or waived by an authorized agent of Matthews Auctioneers.
2. Use of the Site
2.1 Registration: To register and place bids on this site, you must complete the following; (1) provide, among other things, your name, phone number, email address, and a valid credit/debit card. By registering on this site, you agree to be added to our text & email notification list automatically. You may unsubscribe from this list at any time by following the instructions in the message.
2.2 Exclusion of Users & the rejection of bids: Matthews Auctioneers reserves the right to accept or reject a bidder from its site for any reason, including the following reasons; (1) Violation of any of the terms & conditions; (2) Suspected fraudulent activity. VPI and State University, Department of Surplus Property reserves the right to accept, reject, add, or withdraw any or all offers on items listed.
2.3 Placing A Bid: By placing a bid in an auction, you are making an irrevocable offer to purchase that item at a price set forth. ONCE A BID IS PLACED, IT CAN NOT BE RETRACTED FOR ANY REASON.
2.4 Item Inspection & Condition: All items will be available for inspection on the day the auction closes from 8-4 PM. Matthews Auctioneers highly recommends that you inspect the item in person before bidding. By placing a bid on an item, you agree that you have inspected the item and understand the condition of the item. Failure to inspect before bidding shall not be the fault of Matthews Auctioneers or Virginia Tech. Items may have undeclared or unknown defects. NO REFUNDS! ALL SALES FINAL.
2.5 Closing Times: Closing times for each item shall be posted on each item, excluding any extended bidding. End times may change without notice.
2.6 Extended Bidding: An item shall enter extended bidding when a bid is placed in the final 30 seconds of the item's close; then, 1 minute shall be added to the time remaining. An item shall close when no bids are placed within the last 30 seconds.
2.7 Winning Bid: The user who entered the highest bid will complete the item purchase following the terms & conditions. The user's credit card will be charged for the full amount of the invoice. The only exclusion will be for items sold with a reserve, which shall be disclosed in the item details. All invoices must be paid within 24 hours of the auction's close. Any items not paid within 24 hours of the auction close will be resold, and the bidder will be banned from bidding on future auctions and may be subject to legal action.
2.8 Item Removal: All items must be picked up at 1425 S Main St in Blacksburg, VA, on Saturday, Monday & Tuesday from 8-4 PM following the close of the auction. Failure to remove items before Tuesday at 4 PM will result in a late fee of $5 per item per day. Any & all items not removed from the premises by 4 pm on the second Friday following the close of the auction will be forfeited without refund to the buyer.
2.9 Buyer's Premium & Sales Tax - 5.3% VA Sales Tax will be added to each invoice. No buyer's premium is charged on this auction.
2.10 Liability for Items: Purchaser assumes all liability for the property after the winning award is made. The Department of Surplus property will exercise its usual care for property up to the time of removal but will not be responsible for any loss of item or damage to any item whatsoever.
2.11 The Virginia Conflict of Interest Act applies to this auction.
2.12 VEHICLE TITLES: Vehicle Titles will be made out in the name of the REGISTERED NAME OF THE WINNING BIDDER. NO EXCEPTIONS.
2.13 Payment for Purchases: The credit card you registered with will be charged by 10 AM the Morning after the auction closes. Matthews Auctioneers reserves the right to require a wire transfer on any invoice at the buyer's expense. No payments will be accepted onsite at Virginia Tech Surplus.
2.14 Documents Required for Item Removal: Before any item can be removed from Virginia Tech, 3 conditions must be met. (1) Invoice must be paid in full. (2) Buyer must have a copy of the paid invoice. (3) Buyer must have a valid photo ID. (ID does not have to match the name on the invoice)
2.15 By registering for this auction, you will automatically be subscribed to our email and text message notifications for future auctions. 2.16 Shipping Services:
Please note that neither Matthews Auctioneers nor VT Surplus offer shipping services for this auction.
If you need shipping for this auction, you will need to find a shipper that can do the following:
- Pick up during the pickup times. Failure to remove items by 4 PM Tuesday, will result in late fees being applied to the purchase.
- Prepare items for shipment, including palletizing, wrapping, securing, etc. VT surplus can load with a forklift but will not prepare items for shipment in any way.
- The shipper must present a receipt or order number at the time of pickup identifying the items they will be receiving.
3. Other Terms & Auctioneer Notes
3.1 Staff of Matthews Auctioneers and their families are permitted to bid on all auctions but must follow all terms & conditions of the sale.
3.2 Tie Bids: In the event 2 bids are placed for the same amount on the same item. The high bidder will be determined automatically by whoever placed the bid first. Matthews Auctioneers will not reopen the bidding for that item.
